WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Junior
Emily Tripp (Westport, Mass.) recorded a double-double in leading the Connecticut College women's basketball team to a 56-44 victory over the University of Saint Joseph in an exhibition matchup between the schools on Saturday afternoon.
USJ led for most of the first quarter until Tripp drilled a trifecta with 3:29 on the clock to make it 9-8 and spark a 9-0 run. Despite being threatened throughout the contest, the Camels held off every attempted rally by the Blue Jays. After two made free throws by Jordan Ouellette brought the hosts within four, Connecticut College ended the half on an 8-0 run which was capped by a layup off the hands of sophomore
Jaycie Rojik.
The Camels maintained a comfortable lead for the remainder of the game despite being challenged by a feisty Blue Jays squad. Tianna Verboven brought the hosts within eight near the end of the third, but that was as close as the team would come the rest of the way. Sophomore
Molly Cronin (Wellesley, Mass.) drilled a 3-pointer to dash their hopes, and the margin ballooned to as many as 18 at 54-36 on a Tripp free throw.
Tripp had a double-double performance with 19 points and 11 rebounds by shooting 7-of-11 from the floor and sinking three shots from the charity stripe. She also had three assists and two steals. Junior
Claire Gulbin (Wilton, Conn.) finished with eight points and eight assists for Connecticut College, which totaled 14 helpers on 19 made buckets.
USJ got an 11-point, 4-rebound effort from Amanda Fudge.
