HARTFORD, Conn. – After recognizing its five-member senior class for their contributions to the program, the Connecticut College men's basketball team defeated Trinity, 71-62, in an exhibition matchup on the road on Saturday afternoon.
In an intense back-and-forth affair, the teams found themselves tied with eight minutes left. Freshman
Jarron Flynn (Roslindale, Mass.), who hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to close out the first half, then hit another shot from downtown from the corner at the seven-minute mark to give the Camels the momentum.
With Trinity down one, freshman
Billy Whelan (Hamilton, Mass.) dialed up from long distance to give the visitors some breathing room and expand the lead to four with two minutes left. Classmate
Ben Rice (Hanson, Mass.) would eventually seal the game by sinking three of four free throws down the stretch.
"It was exciting to see our growth in taking better care of the basketball and finishing plays off," said head coach
Tim Sweeney. "We were able to rebound and do just enough to grind out a win."
The Camels and Bantams will face off in another exhibition tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 p.m. on the campus of Trinity.
