BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Juniors
Claire Gulbin (Wilton, Conn.) and
Emily Tripp (Westport, Mass.) each scored in double figures as the Connecticut College women's basketball team earned a dominating 71-39 victory over Sarah Lawrence on Sunday afternoon.
Sarah Lawrence (1-3) came out firing and built up a 7-0 advantage in the first three minutes of the contest. The Camels, however, quickly responded with a 15-7 run to close out the opening quarter and never trailed again. Sophomore
Emily O'Sullivan (North Reading, Mass.) gave the visitors their first lead by converting a layup to make it 11-10, as well as their first double-digit advantage in the second quarter at 28-17 by sinking two free throws.
Connecticut College (2-3), which led 35-17 at recess thanks to a trifecta by freshman
Hope Olson (Yarmouth, Maine) in the waning seconds, was never seriously challenged the rest of the way. The Gryphons were limited to making just a single field goal in the fourth, and the Camels eventually came away with the 32-point win.
Gulbin registered 13 points and six assists, which were team highs, to lead the way for Connecticut College. Tripp netted 11 and pulled down six rebounds, while senior
Casey Walsh (Phoenixville, Pa.) grabbed 11 boards in her final game as a collegian.
Kendall Haymore posted a double-double to pace Sarah Lawrence in the losing effort by racking up 14 points and 11 rebounds. She also blocked two shots. Camryn Davis had a solid performance with 6 points, seven rebounds, and six helpers.
