BRISTOL, R.I. – The Connecticut College field hockey team defeated Roger Williams in a 4-0 rout on the road on Saturday morning.
Freshman
Elektra Rodger (Greenwich, Conn.) scored twice, and classmates
Kylee Quinn (Sandwich, Mass.) and Abby Krahmr (Duxbury, Mass.) also found the back of the cage in the exhibition. Three of the four scores came by capitalizing off of penalty corners.
Rodger put the visitors on the board in the opening five minutes and doubled the margin as time expired in the third quarter by deflecting a penalty corner shot by Quinn. Freshman
Patricia Hewitt (Middletown, N.Y.) then set up Krahmr on a penalty corner, and Quinn closed out the scoring by finishing a pass from freshman
McKalynn Jacobsen (Fairfield, Conn.) on another corner.
Junior
Jackie Mountford (New London, N.H.) had another solid performance between the posts and most notably secured the shutout by saving a lifted ball midway through the fourth quarter when the game was just 2-0.
"Today was a great effort by our young group," said head coach
Chrissy Chappell. "We played without any subs and still worked hard to get better every quarter. Our penalty corner execution was a huge bright spot, as we scored three of the four goals on cleanly executed corners."
