Men's Lacrosse Downs Lasell, 20-9, at Silfen Field

By Jenna Whelan '22

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Sophomore Jared Rainville (Watertown, Conn.) factored into seven goals in leading the Connecticut College men's lacrosse team to a 20-9 victory over Lasell on Saturday afternoon at Silfen Field.

The Camels came out strong in the first half by rattling off nine unanswered goals, including two from junior Nick Farnham (Falmouth, Maine), sophomore Gus Mazzocca (West Hartford, Conn.), and Rainville. After a Camel penalty, Lasell finally put themselves on the board on a man-up goal from Chase Kapuscienski with 5:20 left to play in the half. The Lasers added one more goal during the half, but the Camels continued to dominate offensively.

With the help from senior Toby Almeida (Cumberland, R.I.) controlling 13 of the 16 faceoffs, including 22 of 26 overall, and the team forcing 10 Lasell turnovers during the first half, Connecticut College (2-0) was able to take a commanding 12-2 lead heading into the break.

After an early third-quarter goal from junior Logan Bowdish (Waterford, Conn.), Lasell (3-2) attempted to start a run by scoring three unanswered goals and making it 13-5, but Conn quickly shut them down with an impressive goal from sophomore Joey Bradley (Ridgefield, Conn.) which was assisted by freshman Jack Tenzer (Charlotte, N.C.). Conn led by at least eight goals during the second, and Lasell could not find the back of the net enough to overcome the first-half deficit.

In addition to Rainville's three goals and four assists, Mazzocca scored four goals, junior Patrick Linehan (Baltimore, Md.) tallied three, and starting keeper Billy Dreyer (Columbia, S.C.) had five saves for Connecticut College. Sophomore Jack Venturelli (Duxbury, Mass.) led the Camel defense with 11 ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Lasell (3-2) was paced by Kapuscienski, who tallied three goals. Alex Beauchemin made 14 saves between the posts.

The Camels return to action next Saturday, April 10th, for a NESCAC matchup against Bates on Silfen Field at 3 p.m.
