Meredith Cronin and men's soccer goalkeeper
AJ Marcucci were among the student-athletes who were presented with major awards at the 2020-21 Connecticut College Senior Student-Athlete Awards Banquet on Tuesday evening.
The event, which was held in a hybrid format with student-athletes and staff inside Dayton Arena and available through a Zoom webinar for families, celebrated the achievements of the senior class over the past four years. Six student-athletes and one administrator were recognized with major awards.
In addition to Cronin and Marcucci, other awards were given to men's ice hockey student assistant coach Bryan Ackil, CC Curtis from the Office of Wellbeing and Health Promotion, men's soccer defender
Liam Donelan, women's water polo driver
Stephania Lopez, and men's ice hockey captain
Brett Stirling.
Connecticut College Major Award Winners
Anita L. DeFrantz Award (Top Female Student-Athlete): Meredith Cronin (Cross Country, Track & Field)
Established in 1995 by Kathryn Smith '84 and given to the female member of the graduating class whose athletic ability, leadership, and sportsmanship best exemplify the qualities of Olympic medalist Anita L. DeFrantz '74.
Anita L. DeFrantz Award (Top Male Student-Athlete): AJ Marcucci (Soccer)
Established in 1995 by Kathryn Smith '84 and given to the male member of the graduating class whose athletic ability, leadership, and sportsmanship best exemplify the qualities of Olympic medalist Anita L. DeFrantz '74.
Tammy Brown Award (Top Female Scholar-Athlete): Stephania Lopez (Water Polo)
Established by the class of 1984 and given to the outstanding female student-athlete who best represents the graduating class in scholarship, leadership, and sportsmanship.
James Brooks Award (Top Male Scholar-Athlete): Liam Donelan (Soccer) &
Brett Stirling (Ice Hockey)
Established by the class of 1984 and given to the outstanding male student-athlete who best represents the graduating class in scholarship, leadership, and sportsmanship.
Erica M. Bos Award (Inspiration): Bryan Ackil (Ice Hockey)
Established in 1990 to honor an athlete whose courage, motivation, and relentless determination serve as an inspiration to others.
Andrew H. Chait Award (Service): CC Curtiss (Wellbeing & Health Promotion)
Established in 1986 to honor a member of the College community who has shown outstanding service and commitment to the Connecticut College Department of Athletics.
