NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College men's lacrosse team completed its 2021 season with a win by edging out Hamilton, 11-7, on Saturday afternoon at Silfen Field. Sophomore
Jared Rainville (Watertown, Conn.) led the Camels to victory, getting himself involved in four of the 11 goals and scooping up 12 ground balls.
The first half of the competition remained close, with both teams trading goals back and forth. The Continentals opened up scoring with an unassisted shot from Will Braun, but junior
Nick Farnham (Falmouth, Maine) was able to respond off of a pass from Rainville just two minutes later on a man-up opportunity. Farnham recorded his second goal of the day in the second quarter, and freshman
Bobby Chang (Vista, N.Y.) registered his first collegiate goal and gave the Camels their first lead of the game.
The Camels defensive line, with help from sophomore
Jack Venturelli (Duxbury, Mass.) and senior
Zach Gustafson (Sherborn, Mass.), kept the Continentals from taking the lead for the remainder of the competition. Venturelli led the defense with five ground balls.
After the third quarter, in which both teams only netted one goal each, the Camels stayed on the attack and outscored their opponent, 3-1, in the final frame with finishes from Rainville, sophomore
Joey Bradley (Ridgefield, Conn.) and junior
Justin Boes (Marblehead, Mass.)
Senior
Toby Almeida (Cumberland, R.I.) finished his career with another dominant faceoff performance, winning 17 of the 21 he was involved in. Freshman goalkeeper
Will Rice (New Rochelle, N.Y.) was credited with the win and recorded 10 saves, while Hamilton's Max Scheidl suffered the loss despite making 26 stops.
Connecticut College (4-3) is slated to graduate nine seniors and return more than 40 letterwinners, including eight starters, next season.
