Box Score CLINTON, N.Y. – The Connecticut College field hockey team dropped a NESCAC matchup on the road against Hamilton by a 3-1 score on Sunday afternoon.
Hamilton (5-2, NESCAC 2-2) dominated the first quarter, outshooting the Camels by a 12-0 margin and taking all six penalty corners. Although senior captain
Jackie Mountford (New London, N.H.) kept the visitors in the game by making five saves in the opening frame alone, the Continentals were able to get on the board in the waning minutes when Grace Delaney redirected a ball sent in from outside the arc by Grace Chapis.
The Camels came alive in the second and capitalized on their first penalty corner. After the ball was passed around, freshman
Rowan Galanis (Ipswich, Mass.) won a loose ball on the doorstep of the cage and slipped it into the left corner. Sophomore
Elektra Rodger (Greenwich, Conn.) was credited with an assist on the play.
Hamilton, however, responded and regained the lead heading into the break. With 5:28 remaining, Alana King won a ball through traffic and fired a shot to the far post.
After a quiet third period in which the Camels attempted the only three shots and attempted the only penalty corner, Hamilton got one more past Mountford to give itself some breathing room with 6:19 left in regulation on a tic-tac-toe play. Off a penalty corner, Maura Holden finished a pass from Chapis to make it 3-1 in favor of the hosts. An apparent insurance goal was called back, and the Continentals still held on to earn the two-goal victory.
Maggie Reville made four saves to earn the victory between the posts for Hamilton, which outshot the Camels, 27-10, and had a 13-4 advantage in penalty corners. Mountford took the loss despite making 11 stops, and senior
Colleen Raftery (Dover, Mass.) was credited with her second defensive save in as many days.
Connecticut College (1-5, NESCAC 0-4) will regroup and prepare to play two home games next weekend on Silfen Field. The Camels will first host top-ranked Middlebury on Saturday morning at 11 a.m.
