BOSTON, Mass. – Senior netminder
Carly Denora (Verona, N.J.) picked up her fourth career shutout and three different players found the back of the net to help lift the Connecticut College women's ice hockey team to a 3-0 victory over Suffolk on Tuesday evening.
After a scoreless but tightly contested first period which saw the Camels outshoot their opponent by a 7-6 margin, junior
Camille Phelan (Medfield, Mass.) ended the deadlock on the team's second power play opportunity by finishing passes from freshman
Miyu Miyazaki (Chiba, Japan) and classmate
Morgan Bronstein (Pittsford, N.Y.) at the 15:30 mark of the middle frame.
Early in the third, the Camels doubled their lead when senior
Melissa Alexander (Bellingham, Mass.) collected the puck through traffic following a faceoff from the right dot and buried a garbage goal just 33 seconds into the frame. Then with Denora still in control between her posts and the net empty at the other end, the visitors put the game away in a 6-on-4 situation. Miyazaki stole the puck away from a pair of Rams in the Camels' defensive zone and floated the puck down the ice and into the net.
Denora earned her fourth career shutout and first of the season by stopping 24 shots, which included 11 in the final frame. Lily O'Neil made 17 saves for Suffolk (9-2) in the losing effort.
Connecticut College (4-5-2) returns home to host a two-game weekend series against Bowdoin. The teams will first meet on Friday evening at 7 p.m.
