Women’s Basketball Concludes Opening NESCAC Weekend With Loss At No. 13 Bowdoin

By Sam Maidenberg '23

BRUNSWICK, MAINE – The Connecticut College women's basketball team dropped its second straight NESCAC game in Maine, this time to rival Bowdoin by a score of 77-35 on Saturday afternoon.

The Camels jumped out to a 6-0 lead to start the game from two Audrey Shaev (Scarsdale N.Y.) three pointers. They continued this strong start throughout the rest of the first quarter, and despite a run from the Polar Bears to cut the lead, Conn finished the quarter on top 15-12.

However, the second quarter told a different story, as Bowdoin outscored Conn by a margin of 18-5. Conn fell 10 points behind at the end of the first half despite 11 first half points by Shaev. The third quarter proved more of the same, as Bowdoin continued to widen its lead, extending it to 33 points by the end of the third quarter.

The fourth quarter only worked to widen Bowdoin's lead, as 18 points from Sela Kay and 17 from Tori Beck proved too much for the Camels to overcome. With this win, Bowdoin moves to 11-3 on the season and will even their NESCAC record at 1-1 after yesterday's loss to Trinity.

Shaev led the Camels with 13 points, while Jaycie Rojik (Scituate, Mass.) added nine following her career high last night. She also had six rebounds to lead Conn.

Connecticut College (2-11, NESCAC 0-2) will head back to New London for a Wednesday night out-of-conference home game against crosstown rival Coast Guard at 7 p.m.
