WATERFORD, Conn. - No. 33 Connecticut College men's cross country program placed eighth among 23 scoring teams at its home invitational being held at Harkness Park on Saturday afternoon. The Camels finished with 270 points at the extremely competitive meet with ten nationally-ranked programs and an additional nine regionally-ranked squads.
On a picture-perfect day, senior
Matt Carter (Manchester, Mass) led the Camels in the race by covering the 8,000-meter course in 24:15.4 and placed fifth overall. He was closely followed by classmate
Jeffrey Love (Union, N.J.) , who posted a 13
th-place mark, crossing the line in 24:34.60.
With ideal running conditions, the pace was brisk from the onset of the race. Carter and Love were pushed to the middle of the pack after of frenetic start, but both runners stuck to their game plans and gradually moved up the field. By the end of the event, Carter and Love set new personal bests. Carter topped his previous fastest time by over 15 seconds and set a new course record for a Connecticut College cross country runner, topping the 24:17 mark set by Danny Aschale in 2019.

Brendan Mellitt (Cheshire, Conn.) came in 67
th in 25:39.9, while sophomore
Harry Harwood (Woodbury, Conn.) crossed the line in 25:57.5, placing 90
th. Junior
Ethan Bush (Hanover, Mass.) rounded out the team's top five with a mark of 26:25.5, which was good for 111
th.
No. 2 MIT won the team title by accumulating 46 points, and No. 9 Williams was second with 78. No. 30 Middlebury (154), No. 16 Saint Olaf's (160) and No. 13 Haverford (168) completed the top five teams in the standings. Williams senior Elias Lindgren won the individual title with a time of 23:43.3, setting a new course record.
Connecticut College will next head to Hamilton College on Saturday, Oct. 29.
