Field Hockey Takes Down Roger Williams

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Connecticut College field hockey team used a pair of second-half goals to secure a 2-1 victory over Roger Williams University on Tuesday night in non-conference action at Bayside Field.

Kendall Arnold (Pawling, N.Y.) and Kylee Quinn (Sandwich, Mass.) each scored goals on the night as the Camels picked up their second consecutive victory. Conn, which topped Colby College on Saturday, last won back-to-back games in 2018.

The Camels controlled the first half but didn't have anything to show for it on the scoreboard. Conn held a 3-0 edge in shots and earned the lone short corner of the stanza, but couldn't capitalize.
Conn came out strong to start the second half, producing four corners and three shots in the first five minutes of the stanza. However, Roger Williams goalie Hannah Brazil made a pair of saves to keep the game scoreless.

Arnold finally broke the stalemate midway through the period, notching her fourth goal in the past two games. Tatum Courtmanche (Madison, Conn.) started the sequence with a long hit from the midfield, connecting with Bridget McGann (West Hartford, Conn.) for a flick into the scoring circle, where Arnold was waiting to finish off her fifth tally of the season.

In the fourth quarter, Quinn extended the lead to 2-0 off a short corner with just over 12 minutes remaining in the game. After receiving the insertion from Bridget Mason (East Greenwich, R.I.) at the top of the circle, Quinn took a big rip on the ball and sent it humming into the back of the cage for her third marker of the year.

The extra goal proved immense as Roger Williams mustered its first good scoring chance minutes later. A breakaway on the left side resulted in a foul and penalty shot for the Hawks, and Hunter Phillips lifted a shot into the left side of the goal to cut Conn's lead in half.

After turning in a listless performance for most of the game, the Roger Williams offense came to life in the final five minutes in an attempt to tie the score. The Hawks earned four short corners and put a pair of shots on goal, both of which were turned away by Sadie Abuhaidar (Park City, Utah).

The Camels finished with an 11-6 advantage in total shots and put five attempts on goal. Abuhaidar recorded two saves and picked up her second win in as many games.

Conn College (4-9 overall) will next host No. 19 Bates College on Saturday, October 22 at 11:30 a.m.
