NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Connecticut College picked up a 3-0 victory over Rhode Island College on Tuesday night in non-conference women's volleyball action at the Murray Center.
Conn won by comfortable margins in each set (25-14, 25-16 and 25-19) and improved to 7-10 overall.
Katherine Randall (Chicago, Ill.) supplied a match-high seven kills and hit .438 while
Emma Wheeler (Meredith, N.H.) chipped in five kills and seven blocks.
The Camels set the tone early, scoring the first six points of the opening set behind a service ace by
Natasha Shrivastava (San Diego, Calif.) and a pair of kills by Randall. Later, a 7-0 run yielded a 16-5 lead for the visitors, who wrapped up the set on a block by Wheeler and
Christina Leduc (North Dennis, Mass.).
Rhode Island scored the first point of the second set, but another 6-0 run put the Camels in front for good. Conn went on to lead by as many as nine in the stanza, with Wheeler and Shrivastava each contributing a pair of service aces.
The Camels never trailed in the final set as the offense pumped out 15 kills.
Valentina Baehrle (Redwood City, Calif.) led the charge with four while Randall,
Amanda Kreidler (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) and
Taylor Knott (Chapel Hill, N.C.) tacked on three apiece.
Shrivastava handed out 11 assists while
Olivia Dow (San Anselmo, Calif.) added 10.
Julia Dailey (Charlottesville, Va.) and
Nicolette Marino (Verona, N.J.) paced the defense with 11 and 10 digs, respectively.
Conn College will next host Coast Guard Academy on Thursday, October 20 at 6 p.m.
