Men's Water Polo Falls in CWPA Finale

10/23/2022 11:03:00 AM

ERIE, Pa. – The Connecticut College men's water polo team suffered an 18-6 loss to Washington & Jefferson College on Sunday morning in a consolation match at the 2022 CWPA DIII Eastern Championship.

Christian Jacobsen (North Palm Beach, Fla.) paced the Camels with three goals, his third hat trick of the tournament. The senior, who netted a total of 10 goals over the three games, was named to the all-tournament second team.

Grant Archer (Miami, Fla.), Sam Guy (Portland, Ore.) and Chase Fichtner (New Canaan, Conn.) also supplied goals on the day. Archer and Guy each finished with six goals apiece for the tournament while Fichtner added four.

Jacobsen scored in the opening minute to give Conn an early 1-0 lead. Washington & Jefferson responded with three straight tallies to pull in front, but a goal by Fichtner in the final minute of the quarter drew the Camels back to within one.

The Presidents tacked on a pair of goals in the second quarter to lead 5-2 at halftime. They then went on to outscore the Camels 8-1 in the third—including the first six goals of the second half—to expand the lead to double digits.

Jacobsen notched the hat trick with two goals in the fourth, but the Camels could do little to make up the difference. Chris Edwards and Mitchell Rubio each finished with four goals apiece to lead Washington & Jefferson, which improved to 8-6 overall on the year.

The Camels (2-10 overall) will next host LIU on Friday, October 28 at 5 p.m.
