Men's Soccer To Play Bowdoin In NESCAC Quarterfinals

NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Connecticut College men's soccer team has earned the eighth seed in the upcoming NESCAC Tournament. The Camels will travel to play top-seeded Bowdoin in quarterfinal action on Saturday, October 29 at 12:30 p.m. 

ABOUT CONN 
  • Connecticut College finished the regular season with an overall record of 7-5-3, including conference victories over Trinity, Williams and Bates. The Camels also earned draws against Tufts and Amherst. 
  • This is the 11th consecutive season that the Camels have qualified for the NESCAC Tournament.
  • The Camels made their first ever NESCAC Championship game last season, falling to Tufts. Conn then went on to win the 2021 NCAA Championship.
  • 2021 NESCAC Player of the Year, Augie Djerdjaj (Mahopac, N.Y.), leads the team with six goals
  • Senior Steve Yeonas (McLean, Va.) has been a facilitator on offense, recording three goals and four assists
  • Senior Oliver Pinyochon (Newburyport, Mass.) and junior Marco Cerezo have been vital to the team's success in the midfield and on defense, starting all 15 games.
  • The Camels' defense has been stout all season long, allowing less than one goal per game on average.
  • Keeper Peter Silvester (Smiths Parish, Bermuda) has recorded three clean sheets. Silvester has the fifth-highest save percentage in the conference.
ABOUT BOWDOIN
  • Bowdoin concluded the regular season with an overall record 11-1-3, and have not lost since September 25.
  • The Polar Bears are currently ranked sixth in the United Soccer Coaches national poll.
  • Bowdoin has qualified for the NESCAC Tournament in 20 out of 22 seasons and has two championship victories over that span.
  • The Polar Bears are the top seed in the conference for the first time since 2010.
  • Sophomore Ronaldo Cabral leads the conference with seven goals.
  • Bowdoin's defense has been one of the best in the nation, only yielding a total of five goals throughout 15 games.
  • Polar Bears keeper Michael Webber has recorded nine shutouts and leads the NESCAC in save percentage, stopping 88.9% of shots.
THE MATCHUP
  • Conn and Bowdoin played each other on Sept. 17. The Polar Bears won 1-0 on a goal by Everett Horch in the 76th minute. Read the full recap here.
  • Bowdoin has beaten Conn twice in the postseason, the last win coming in the 2015 NESCAC semifinals.
  • Conn last beat Bowdoin at home in 2019.
  • The Camels return 14 participants from last year's NESCAC tournament, the Polar Bears will field 12 athletes with postseason experience.
