Carter, Love Lead Men's Cross Country To Fourth Place Finish At NESCAC Championships

CLINTON, N.Y. - Seniors Matt Carter (Manchester, Mass.) and Jeffrey Love (Union, N.J.) each placed in the top-10 to lead the Connecticut College men's cross country team to a fourth place finish at the NESCAC Championships on Saturday afternoon. 

Connecticut College recorded its best result at the NESCAC Championships since 2017, an event where they also placed fourth in the team standings. 

Carter placed third overall by navigating the 8,000-meter circuit in 24:00.9 and Love was sixth in 24:25. By finishing among the top-14 runners, they each earned All-NESCAC accolades for the second consecutive season. Both runners recorded personal-bests in the 8k event.

Junior Brendan Mellitt (Cheshire, Conn.) was third on the team and 35th in the field in 25:23.3, while sophomore Matt Scardigno (Port Washington, N.Y.) and first year Jonathan Norton (Vineyard Haven, Mass.) completed the team's top five by finishing 43rd and 51st with marks of 25:37.2 and 25:47.5, respectively.

Williams won the team title, scoring 41 points. The Ephs had all five runners place in the top-15, including individual winner Elias Lindgren. 

Connecticut College will next compete in the D3 Challenge at Stenger Farms in Waterford, Conn. on November 5.
