CLINTON, N.Y. – Connecticut College dropped a 3-0 decision at Hamilton College on Saturday afternoon in NESCAC women's volleyball action at Margaret Bundy Scott Field House.
In a tight and competitive match, it was the Continentals who came out on top by set scores of 25-22, 25-18 and 25-22. Hamilton finished with 48 kills and hit .286 as a squad, with Kate Carman paving the way with a match-high 20 kills.
Riley Lord (Exeter, N.H.) led the Camels with a season-high 13 kills on 25 attempts.
The two sides traded blows in an opening set that saw wild momentum swings. Down by five, Conn responded with a 4-0 run that featured four consecutive kills, two by
Taylor Knott (Chapel Hill, N.C.) and one apiece from Lord and
Emma Wheeler (Meredith, N.H.). Hamilton countered with a 5-0 spurt to go up by six, only to see the Camels answer back with six straight points to tie the score at 16-16. However, the Continentals had the final say, winning six of the next seven points en route to taking the set.
A 5-0 stretch gave Conn an early 8-3 lead in the second set, as Lord supplied two aces and a kill while
Christina Leduc (North Dennis, Mass.) added a pair of kills. Hamilton used a 6-0 run to pull in front midway through the set, with Carman fueling the comeback with two kills. With the score tied at 16-16, the Continentals won nine of the final 11 points to secure the 2-0 lead.
After Hamilton jumped out to a 5-0 start in the third, Conn quickly fired back by winning six of the next seven points to even the score at 6-6. The Continentals responded with another 5-0 run and never trailed again, although the Camels stayed within striking distance until the end. Carman supplied the final kill on match point, notching her season-high 20th kill of the contest.
Julia Dailey (Charlottesville, Va.) paced the Conn defense with 11 digs, and Lord and Wheeler each finished with a pair of blocks.
Olivia Dow (San Anselmo, Calif.) and
Natasha Shrivastava (San Diego, Calif.) combined for 26 of the team's 29 assists on the day.
Conn College (6-8 overall, 1-6 NESCAC) will next host Wesleyan University on Thursday, October 13 at 6 p.m.
