CONNECTICUT COLLEGE (0-0)Â
Head coach Tim Sweeney returns 11 letterwinners from a Conn College team that went 10-11 last season and hosted a NESCAC Tournament game for the first time in 20 years. The Camels bring back their core, which includes four starters and the top-seven scorers from a year ago. The backcourt of junior Jarron Flynn (14.0 ppg) and sophomore Cam Schainfeld (12.2 ppg) will set the tone on the offensive end.
- Junior Ben Rice (8.4 ppg) gave the Camels a presence in the paint last season, averaging a team-high 7.5 rebounds per game.
- Junior Billy Whelan was Conn's top three-point threat, burying a team-high 40 treys last season while shooting at a 35-percent clip from beyond the arc.
- Sweeney welcomes three newcomers to the roster in guards RJ Casey and Martin Wilson and forward Elias Espinosa.Â
UMASS DARTMOUTH (0-0)
The Corsairs are coming off a historic season in which they went 26-5 and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament, losing to eventual national champion Randolph-Macon. However, the key contributors from that team have all graduated, including All-American and two-time LEC Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Azor. UMass Dartmouth was picked fourth in the LEC preseason poll.
- The Corsairs bring back only six players from last year's roster, and only one of their top five scorers. Jackson Zancan (11.4 ppg) is the only returner who averaged in double digits.
- Head coach Brian Baptiste was named NABC District II Coach of the Year last season. He enters the 2022-23 campaign as the active leader in Division III wins with 696.
WESTFIELD STATE (0-1)
The Owls are coming off back-to-back MASCAC titles and are the preseason favorite to win the league again. Westfield State returns three of its top four scorers from a team that went 22-5 last season, led by senior forward Brendon Hamilton.
- Hamilton led the Owls in scoring (15.0 ppg) and rebounding (14.6 rpg) last year while garnering all-district and all-conference honors. The MASCAC Defensive Player of the Year also averaged 2.1 blocks per contest.
- JT Thompson (10.9 ppg) and Kuany Teng (10.7 ppg) also scored in double digits a year ago.
- The Owls opened the season on Nov. 8 at home against Keene State and lost by an 86-71 final.Â
KEANÂ (1-0)
Kean returns two of its top three scorers from a squad that posted a 14-10 record and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NJAC Tournament last season. The Cougars were selected fifth in the NJAC preseason poll.
- Senior Letrell West was an All-NJAC Second Team selection a year ago, averaging team highs of 18.2 points and 4.9 rebounds per contest. Almost a third of his points came at the free throw line, where he earned 148 attempts and converted at an 87-percent clip.Â
- Jailen Jamison, back for a fifth year, is a threat at the guard position. He averaged 12.1 points per game last season and led the Owls in assists (107) and steals (54).
- Kean opened the season with an 83-52 victory over York College on Nov. 8. Senior Griffin Barker posted a double-double of 23 points and 11 rebounds to lead the charge.Â
