Women's Cross Country Places 10th At NCAA Mideast Regional Championships

CANTON, N.Y. – Paced by senior Julia Curran (Cumberland, Maine) and junior Lauren Hino (Berwyn, Pa.), the Connecticut College women's cross country team placed 10th among 21 scoring teams with 250 points at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championships on Saturday afternoon at St. Lawrence University.
 
Curran circled the 6,000-meter course in 23:26.2 to finish 19th among 159 runners, while Hino was right behind in 20th by hitting the tape in 23:30.4, improving 49 spots from her 69th-place finish at regionals last season. Both Camels earned all-region laurels for placing among the top 35. 

First year Alsacia Timmerman (Morrisville, Vt.) was 60th in 24:50.9, and classmate Grace McDonough (Londonderry, N.H.) crossed the line 75th in 25:24.8. Alexa Estes (Virginia Beach, Va.) completed the team's top five by finishing 80th in 25:41.3.
 
RPI sophomore Morgan Lee was the individual champion, who posted a mark of 21:10.9. Williams captured the team title with 47 points to earn the region's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Championships. Amherst finished in the runner-up spot with 70 points, and RPI was third with 122 points. St. Lawrence (128) and Smith (156) rounded out the top five in the team standings.
 
Connecticut College will now wait to see if it will send any of its student-athletes to the NCAA Championships in Michigan. Teams and additional individuals who qualify will be announced tomorrow.
