Women's Squash Splits With Vassar, Haverford

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Connecticut College women's squash team split a pair of matchups against Vassar and Haverford on Saturday afternoon in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. The Camels took down Vassar 7-2, before falling to Haverford 6-3 later in the day.

Against the Brewers, seniors Angela Cao (Boston, Mass.) and Tanya Mendoza (Bronx, N.Y.), juniors Caroline Champa (Boston, Mass.) and Ashley Breyer (Middletown, R.I.), sophomore Izzy Schumacher (Briar Cliff Manor, N.Y.) and first year Kimberly Lucero (New York, N.Y.) picked up straight-set victories over their opponents.

In perhaps the match of the day, first year Miranda Medina (Houston, Texas) pulled out a miraculous five-set win in the No. 4 position. After dropping the first two sets, Medina stormed back, winning the third set 12-10 before taking the final frames 11-5, 11-5.

Later in the afternoon, the Camels fell to Haverford 6-3. The bottom of the lineup scored points for the Camels. In the No. 7 and 8 positions, Champa and Lucero won grueling five-set battles. In the No. 9 position, Mendoza cruised to a 11-7, 11-7, 6-11, 11-2 decision.

Connecticut College (1-2) will next play Colby on Saturday, December 3.
