Men's Ice Hockey Falls To Bowdoin On The Road

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Connecticut College men's hockey team fell to Bowdoin 6-3 on Saturday afternoon at Sidney J. Watson Arena. The Polar Bears scored four goals in the third period to down the Camels.

Gabe Shipper and Andy Stoneman each tallied a pair of scores to lead Bowdoin (5-1-1 overall, 3-1-1 NESCAC) to its fifth victory of the season.

After a scoreless first period in which the Camels registered 10 shots on goal, the second stanza proved to be more eventful for both teams.

Senior Anthony Quatieri (Peabody, Mass.) broke the scoreless tie one minute into the period with a beautiful back-handed goal to put the visitors on the board. Nine minutes later, Quatieri got involved again, dishing a pass to first year Cole Eichler (King, Ontario) who ripped a wrister on net. Bowdoin goaltender Alex Kozic looked to have a read on the shot, but the puck caromed into the back of the net to give the Camels a 2-0 lead.

In the second half of the middle frame, the Polar Bears stormed back to tie the game. First, following a roughing penalty on both teams, Shipper scored the four-on-four goal to cut the lead in half. Two minutes later, Stoneman found the back of the net to even the score at 2-2 heading into the final period.

The first five minutes of the third proved to be the downfall for the Camels. Bowdoin rattled off three consecutive scores to take a commanding lead. Shipper and Stoneman each added their second of the game, and Aidan Lyons found the back of the net to make it 5-2 in favor of the Polar Bears.

The Camels found a glimmer of hope at the 10:54 mark when Younghoon Choi (Seoul, South Korea) cut into the deficit, scoring off an assist from Devan Newhook (St. John's, Newfoundland).

But the comeback bid was crushed just 21 seconds later when Jack Studley tacked on the sixth goal for the hosts. The Polar Bears held the Camels off the scoreboard for the remainder of the period to earn the 6-3 victory.

Cam Fernandez (Fairfield, Conn.) made 20 saves in net for Conn, while Kozic stopped 22 shots for Bowdoin.

Connecticut College (1-7 overall, 0-6 NESCAC) will break for the remainder of the year and will return to action on Jan. 2 against Assumption.
