Box Score NAPLES, Fla. – In a rematch of its season opener, the Connecticut College women's basketball team held on for a 50-46 victory over Maine Maritime Academy on Thursday afternoon at the Basketball Destinations Classic.
Jaycie Rojik (Scituate, Mass.) and
Molly Cronin (Wellesley, Mass.) scored 18 points apiece as the Camels avenged their 56-50 loss to the Mariners from November 11. The 18 points were a season high for Rojik and a career high for Cronin.
Catie Donadio (Clinton, Conn.) also chipped in eight points and eight rebounds as Conn climbed to 4-7 overall on the season.
The Camels came out of the gate hot, shooting 8-for-14 from the floor in the opening quarter to lead 18-10 after one. Conn cooled down in the second period but still led 26-19 at the break.
Maine Maritime countered with a big third quarter, outscoring Conn 20-7 to take a 39-33 advantage into the final stanza. The Camels regained the lead over the final 10 minutes and held on down the stretch, connecting on eight of 13 attempts from the free throw line to seal the victory.
Conn turned the ball over a season-low 10 times and forced MMA into 23 turnovers on the defensive end. The Camels turned that differential into a 21-1 scoring edge in points off turnovers.
Conn College will next open NESCAC play at Tufts University on Friday, January 6 at 7:00 p.m.
