Camels Knocked out of NESCAC Tournament

By: Zach Perbeck

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Connecticut College women's basketball team fell to Williams College by a score of 40-31. Following the loss to the Ephs, the Camels are now eliminated from the NESCAC Tournament.

The first half saw the Camels keep pace with the Ephs, entering halftime tied after both teams struggled offensively. Connecticut College shot 0-for-9 from deep in the first half while Williams was only slightly better, converting on two of their eight attempts. The Camels turned the ball over seven times in the first half while Williams coughed up the ball 15 times, leading to twelve points for Conn.

The third quarter remained close, with Williams pulling away by two by the end of the period thanks to a three-pointer by Devin Biesbrock with just seven seconds left. The fourth quarter was when the Ephs began to pull away, going on a run to bring the lead to 12 with just over two minutes remaining. Despite a three-pointer in response by Conn sophomore Rebecca Oberman-Levine (Hamden, Conn.) to bring the lead back to single digits, the Camels were unable to close the gap and fell to the Ephs by a score 40-31 at the final buzzer.

Senior Emily Tripp (Westport, Mass.) and junior Jaycie Rojik (Scituate, Mass.) led the Camels in scoring with eight points apiece in the losing effort. Tripp also added five rebounds and two steals as well in the losing effort. Biesbrock led the way for the Ephs in scoring with a game-high 14 points while shooting 4-for-8 from deep. Maddy Mandyck added 10 points and 12 rebounds for Williams.

The Camels were barley outshot from the field, but the Ephs shot 25% from deep whereas Connecticut College shot just 7.1%. Both teams shot between 70-75% from the free-throw line. Williams outrebounded the Camels by a total of 54-29 and totaled eight blocks compared to only three for Conn. The Ephs did turn the ball over at a much higher rate than the Camels, totaling 21 turnovers compared to 14 for the visitors.

As previously mentioned, with the loss, Connecticut College is now eliminated from the NESCAC tournament and will end the season with a 4-17 record overall and a 2-6 record in the NESCAC.
