HARTFORD, Conn. - The Connecticut College men's ice hockey team fell to Trinity 5-0 in the NESCAC Quarterfinals on Sunday afternoon. The Camels ended their season with a record of 6-15-3, 4-12-2 NESCAC.
The 10
th seeded Camels traveled to Hartford to play the second-seeded Bantams with a semifinals berth on the line. The home team got out to a hot start and never looked back.
Trinity set the tone early with two goals in the first 22 seconds of the game. On the first one, Lucas Michaud put away a rebound in front of the net, and then on the possession to follow, teammate Gerrard Maretta fired a shot in off the far post.
With 12 minutes to go in the first, Trinity's Paul Selleck skated it in for another score to increase the lead to 3-0. The Bantams concluded their outstanding first period was a fourth goal coming off the stick of Cole Poliziani off a rebound.
The Camels were able to tighten their defense for the second period, but could not get anything going offensively.
In the third period, the Bantams would add one more to their lead on a power play goal for Michaud's second of the game. Conn would record more shots on net in the period, but Trinity goalkeeper J.P. Mella held them off the board, earning the shut out and 5-0 win. The Bantams (15-7-1, 12-5-1 NESCAC) will advance the the NESCAC Semifinals against third-seeded Williams next Saturday.
Goaltenders Mike McHale (Needham, Mass.) and Sean Dynan (Reading, Mass.) split time in net for the Camels.
Connecticut College will graduate nine seniors and returns 22 varsity letter-winners next season.
