MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - The Connecticut College men's squash team lost to Wesleyan 8-1 on Saturday afternoon in the consolation round of the NESCAC Championships.

Both the Camels and Cardinals came in following losses in the opening round of the conference tournament. The two teams were vying for a 9th place finish at Wesleyan's Rosenbaum Squash Center.

Tyler Maguire (Middletown, R.I.) picked up the lone win in the number one spot for the Camels. After winning the first set, Maguire dropped the next two to Wesleyan's Shanay Sanghavi. The Camel junior came back strong, taking the fourth set 11-3, and clinching the victory with an 11-6 win in the final set. The match was a grueling contest that lasted nearly 45 minutes.

Senior MD Jawad (New Haven, Conn.) and junior Tommy Whittemore (West Hartford, Conn.) both lost in five heart-breaking sets for Conn.

Jawad started off with victories in the first two sets of the match. However, his opponent, Abhinav Gupta, won the next three sets including a 12-10 clincher in the final frame.

Similarly, Whittemore came out swinging, going up two sets to zero. But Wesleyan's Jack Lungstrum was able to close the gap and win the marathon match for the Cardinals.

Connecticut College will play in its final tournament of the year at CSA Nationals in Philadelphia PA. The post-season event begins on Friday, February 18.
