STAMFORD, Conn. - The Connecticut College men's squash team downed Fordham 8-1 on Tuesday night. The Camels utilized six straight-set victories to secure the victory in the final game before CSA Nationals.
Playing at a neutral site, Conn College received wins from all three seniors,
MD Jawad (New Haven, Conn.),
Chris Mach (Concord, Mass.) and
Demetrius Iatridis (Weston, Mass.), in what would be their final regular season match.
Jawad and Mach cruised to straight-set victories in the two and three spots respectively. Iatridis took part in a five-set grudge match. After dropping the first set, the senior came back by winning the next two. Opponent Caleb Schumacher won the fourth set, before Iatridis took the deciding frame 11-9, earning the victory for the Camels.
Tyler Maguire (Middletown, R.I.) continued his excellent junior year by winning 3-0 in the one spot. Teammates
Juan Hurtado,
Tommy Whittemore (West Hartford, Conn.) and
Johor Mahir (New Haven, Conn.) also were winners in straight sets.
Alex Lorenzo-Cruz (Bronx, N.Y.) won the final two sets against Fordham's Winthrop Reed to cap off a 2-1 deficit.Â
The Camels will next compete at CSA Nationals beginning on Friday, February 18.Â
