KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Connecticut College men's tennis team wrapped up its spring break excursion with an 8-1 win over Illinois Tech on Friday morning. The Camels completed the four-match stretch in Florida with a 3-1 record.
Connecticut College demonstrated strong play throughout the match. In the doubles portion, the Camels swept Illinois Tech in all three matches. The duo of seniors
Henry De Coster (Greenwich, Conn.) and
Julian Tien (Barrington, R.I.) led the way at the No. 1 doubles position with a hard-fought 8-6 victory to set the tone for the rest of the match.
De Coster followed up with a win at the No. 1 singles position. The senior dispatched of his opponent in straight sets, 7-6, 6-4. The most exciting matchup of the day was at the No. 4 position between freshman
Jules Taylor-Kerman (New York, N.Y.) and Illinois Tech's Pablo Borque. After winning the first set 6-1, Taylor-Kerman dropped the second 7-5, which would force a final set tie-breaker. The back-and-forth third frame came down to the wire, but the Conn freshman prevailed 12-10 for a huge victory.
Also picking up singles wins for the Camels were sophomoreÂ
David Poudrier (Fairfield, Conn.), freshmanÂ
James Serhant III (Hadley, Mass.), and junior
Aaron Fleishman (Brookline, Mass.), all in straight-sets.  Â
Connecticut College will next play at Springfield College on Wednesday, March 23.
