NORTON, Mass. - Senior Julian Tien (Barrington, R.I.) was a double-winner to lead the Connecticut College men's tennis team to a 7-2 victory over host Wheaton College on Thursday at Beard Field House. The Camels improve to 5-1 on the spring season, and have won their last three in a row.
Conn. College won two of three doubles matches, before coming away with five wins in singles action.
Tien teamed with classmate Sean Jenkins (Davidson, N.C.) at number one doubles to earn an 8-1 victory over the Wheaton senior duo of Ian Tracy and Albert Ortega Campos. Tien won at second singles over Campos in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1.
Sophomore David Poudrier (Fairfield, Conn.) was also a double-winner for the Camels, combining with first year Krishh Tipnis (Thane, India) for an 8-6 triumph at number two doubles over junior Ethan Na and sophomore Elijah Hanlon for the Lyons. Poudrier dropped the first set, 6-2, at number three singles to Na, but battled back for a 7-5 second set win, before taking the third set in a tie-breaker, 9-7.
First year Jules Taylor-Kerman (New York, N.Y.) won in straight sets over Wheaton first year Karl von Weissenbeck at fourth singles, and Conn first year James Serhant III (Hadley, Mass.) defeated Lyons' first year Daniel Bor, 6-3, 6-1 at number five.
Junior Aaron Fleishman (Brookline, Mass.) closed out the match at sixth singles with an 8-3 win in pro-set format over Wheaton junior Jack Luyrink.
Connecticut College heads to Amherst to play its NESCAC opener on Saturday.
