Williams Tops Men's Lacrosse With Big Second Quarter Run

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The Connecticut College men's lacrosse team dropped a NESCAC matchup to Williams on Saturday afternoon. The Camels fell to the Ephs 12-7 despite dominating the face-off battle, besting the hosts on 17 of 22.

The Ephs utilized an eight-goal run in the second and third quarters to overcome a 3-1 Camels lead. The away team would get on the board in the third frame, but would fail to regain the momentum from earlier in the contest.

Senior Patrick Linehan (Baltimore, Md.) started the game off with a goal just over one minute into the first quarter to give the Camels a one-score lead. After a Williams' goal, Jared Rainville (Watertown, Conn.) and Nick Farnham (Falmouth, Maine) would each net goals to regain a 3-1 lead for the visitors with 13:45 left in the second stanza. But that would be the last time the Camels would have the lead. Calvin Caputo scored three in a row for the Ephs, and the defense shut out the Camels for over a quarter and a half. Their 8-0 run between the second and third frames gave Williams a 9-3 lead.

Connecticut College (2-3, 1-2 NESCAC) found the back of the net twice more in the third quarter on goals by Patrick Atkins and Jack Tenzer (Charlotte, N.C.), but would trail the Ephs 10-5 with 15 minutes remaining.

The two teams traded a pair of goals in the final quarter, and Williams (4-2, 3-1 NESCAC) picked up its third conference win, topping the Camels 12-7.

Goalkeeper Will Rice (New Rochelle, N.Y.) made nine saves for Conn, while Ephs' goalie Matt Freitas stopped 13 shots for the home team.

Connecticut College will next host Colby on Saturday, April 2 at 12 p.m.
