NEW LONDON, Conn.- The Connecticut College men's lacrosse team started off the 2022 season with a thrilling overtime win over Endicott by a score of 11-10 on Saturday afternoon at Silfen Field.
Â
The entirety of the match was a back-and-forth battle as both teams went neck-and-neck in scoring throughout the first two periods. Freshman
Patrick Atkins started the scoring for the Camels with three minutes remaining in the first period to tie the game at one and keep it that way throughout the entirety of the first quarter. After assisting Atkins in the first period, junior
Gus Mazzocca (West Hartford, Conn.) scored two goals of his own to keep pace with Endicott and keep the Camels in contention at halftime by a score of 4-4.
Â
The second half started with the Camels taking the lead on a goal by senior
Patrick Linehan (Baltimore, Md.) just over a minute into the half. Endicott had the answers though, scoring four times in the period, including two in quick succession at the 7:54 and 7:11 marks. After juniorÂ
Jared Rainville (Watertown, Conn.) added another goal late in the third quarter for the Camels, the Gulls found themselves ahead by two goals heading into the last 15 minutes of play.
Â
The fourth quarter saw the Camels and Gulls exchange goals, with the Camels scoring with four minutes left to bring the lead back to just one goal for Endicott. With 1:57 left in the game, the Gulls seemed to regain momentum on a goal by Michael Hauptman to give them another two-goal lead. Senior
Nick Farnham (Falmouth, Maine.) converted on an attempt with just over a minute remaining following a timeout by the Camels to bring the deficit back to one goal. Thirty seconds later Farnham did it again, finding the back of the net for his third goal of the game and giving his team a chance to send the game to overtime. After holding the Gulls from scoring over the last 30 seconds, the two teams went to overtime with the momentum favoring the Camels.
Â
Just thirty seconds into the overtime period Rainville had an opportunity on net stemming from a pass from Farnham and got the ball past the Endicott goalkeeper to give the Camels their first win of the season in dramatic fashion.
