CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Connecticut College women's water polo team kicked off its season at the Claremont Convergence Tournament in California this past weekend. The Camels went 0-4 in the two-day event, hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, which included some of the top teams in the nation.
It was a unique trip for the Camels, as more than half of the team had never been to California or played in an outdoor water polo venue. The team gained valuable experience playing top-flight competition throughout the event.
On Friday evening, Conn played Chapman and Whittier. The Camels fell in both games by scores of 21-6 and 23-7 respectively. Sophomore
Sarah Franco (Weston, Conn.) scored the first goal of the season for the team against Chapman. Additionally, it was the first collegiate goal for Franco.
On day two of the tournament, Connecticut College faced off against the University of Ottawa and No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Once again, the Camels were outscored 20-6 and 14-4 in the pair of matches. Notable performances were put forth by
Zoe Starzenski (Montreal, Quebec),
Maiko Okamura (Osaka, Japan),
Anahi Dominguez (Chicago, Ill.) and
Dasha Zdvizhkova (Houston, Texas), all who scored their first career goals.
Connecticut College (0-4) will next play Wittenberg on March 18 at 7 p.m.
