BRIDGEPORT, Pa. - Junior
Maria Sell (San Mateo, Calif.) has been named the 2022 Most Valuable Player of the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III-East Region and an All-Conference First Team selection.
Selected based on nominations and votes by the head coaches of the league's five Division III-East region institutions (Connecticut, Grove City College, Penn State Behrend, Utica College, Washington & Jefferson College), the All-Conference Team honors the 16 best players (14 field players, two goalies) in the majority opinion of the coaches.
It is the first All-Conference nod for Sell after an outstanding offensive season including a CWPA record-breaking performance on the second day of the Division III tournament. The junior recorded 12 goals in a loss to Penn State Behrend. Sell finished the season with a team-high 78 goals.
The achievement marks the fifth Most Valuable Player nod for the Camels following accolades for Nicolle Jasbon (2013, 2014, 2015) and Kelsey Millward (2016).
Sophomore
Sarah Franco (Weston, Conn.) received All-Conference Second Team laurels for her performance this season.
Connecticut College women's water polo graduates two seniors and is expected to return 12 varsity letter winners including Sell and Franco.
