NEW LONDON, Conn. - Connecticut College will be among eight schools competing in the NESCAC Men's Lacrosse Championship Tournament beginning this weekend.
The Camels are seeded eighth and will travel to face top-seeded Tufts on Saturday, Apr. 30 at 3:00 p.m. for the right to advance to the semifinal round at the site of the highest remaining seed. The winner of the NESCAC championship match on Sunday, May 8 will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Tournament.
Connecticut College (5-8, NESCAC 3-7) will look to avenge a 21-14 loss to the Jumbos in Medford from earlier this spring and advance to the semifinal round for the first time since 2013. Offensively, the team is led by junior
Jared Rainville (Waterville, Conn.), senior
Nick Farnham (Falmouth, Maine) as well as freshman
JJ Ford (Clinton, Conn.). Rainville has a team-high 34 goals and 16 assists for 50 points, while Farnham has set up 13 goals and found the back of the net 28 times. Trotsky enters the postseason with 21 markers and 14 assists.
The Camels have had strong play between the posts from sophomore
Will Rice (New Rochelle, N.Y.). He has turned away 45 percent of shots he has faced and was the winning goalie in all five of the team's victories.
Defenders
Jack Venturelli (Duxbury, Mass.) and
Brendan Trovato (Sudbury, Mass.) have combined to cause 42 turnovers as the anchors of the back line. Sophomore
Reese Hornstein (Wayland, Mass.) has won 109 faceoffs this year.
Tufts (13-2, NESCAC 9-1) enters the tournament on a roll and has won seven straight games. The Jumbos have won 11 of the past 12 NESCAC crowns, including the last three in a row. The offense runs through Max Bredahl, who has 51 goals and 43 assists for 94 points this season. Jack Boyden has also contributed to the high-octane offense with 50 goals and 37 helpers.
