NEW ORLEANS, La. - Junior
Malissa Lindsey (Chicago, Ill.) has been named the USTFCCCA Mideast Region Track Athlete of the Year. In addition to Lindsey, eight other student-athletes from the men's and women's program have earned All-Region honors. To earn the distinction an individual must place within the top-five in the region in an event.
Lindsey has had a remarkable season which includes a NESCAC Champion crown in both events as well as a New England title in the 100-meter. She currently holds the fastest-time in Division III in the event as well as the fifth-fastest time in the nation in the 200. She qualified for the Division III NCAA Championships in both events.
The junior also served as the anchor leg of the All-Region 4x100 relay squad with teammates
Abby Ilusorio (Bonita, Calif.),
Jazmyn Gillespie (Chicago, Ill.) and
Erin Fitzpatrick (Sterling, Mass.)
Erica MacSweeney (Canton, Mass.) placed third in the region for the triple jump with a jump of 11.22 meters, a season's best.
Sophomore Emma Wheeler (Meredith, N.H.) was the top heptathlete in the region with a score of 4,319, which ranks 23rd in the nation.
On the men's side,
Ben Vasquez (Millington, N.J.) placed fourth in the region with a time of 1:52.70. Jeffrey Love (Union, N.J.) finished the season third in the 10,000-meters with a 29:56.53 and earned a spot at nationals in the 20th spot. Chris Koskinen (Yarmouth, Maine) also earned double honors with 5,197 points in the decathlon as well as a tie in the top spot in the pole vault at 4.75 meters.
Love and Lindsey will compete at the Division III NCAA Championships beginning on Thursday, May 26.
