Cross Country Teams Register Top Ten Finishes At UMass-Dartmouth Invite

DARTMOUTH, Mass. - The Connecticut College men's and women's cross country teams competed in the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational and earned top-10 finishes, placing second and sixth respectively. 

Men's Race

On the men's side, the Camels earned a runner-up finish in the 36 team event with a score of 115 placement points, trailing only UMass-Lowell. 

In the five mile event, Jeffrey Love (Union, N.J.) placed fourth overall, crossing the line in 24:51. Teammate Brendan Mellitt (Cheshire, Conn.) finished five spots behind in ninth place, with a time of 25:02.

Sophomores Harry Harrwood (Woodbury, Conn.) and Matt Scardigno (Port Washington, N.Y.) also contributed to the runner-up result, placing 21st and 42nd respectively.

Women's Race

Senior Julia Curran (Cumberland, Maine) and junior Lauren Hino (Berwyn, Pa.) led the Camels with a pair of top-10 finishes in the women's 5k event. Curran placed fifth overall with a time of 18:10. Hino crossed the line only 10 seconds behind and earned a ninth-place finish for her efforts. 

First Years Abby Fernald (Avon, Conn.) and Alsacia Timmerman (Morrisville, Vt.) put together strong performances, registering top-50 times in a race that had nearly 300 participants.

Select individuals on the men's and women's teams will next compete at a pre-national event in Lansing, Michigan on Oct. 1. Both full squads will be back in action the following weekend at the James Earley Invitational hosted by Westfield State.
