No. 5 Trinity Clips Field Hockey

NEW LONDON, Conn. – No. 5 Trinity College handed Connecticut College a 5-1 loss on Tuesday night in NESCAC field hockey action at Silfen Field.

The Bantams, who remained unbeaten on the season at 8-0 (4-0 NESCAC), scored the first five goals of the contest en route to victory. Jackie Frank (Longmeadow, Mass) led the way with two goals and an assist. Conn's lone goal came off the stick of Margaret Sadak (Glastonbury, Conn.) in the final moments of the game.

Trinity opened the scoring with 3:18 to go in the first quarter, putting up a goal on its first short corner opportunity of the game. Maeve Hymovitz (Needham Heights, Mass.) served as the inserter, and after putting the ball into play she camped out on the doorstep of the Conn goal. After some nifty passing, Caelin Flaherty (Upton, Mass.) put a ball to the post that Hymovitz redirected into the back of the cage.

A defensive save by McKalynn Jacobsen (Fairfield, Conn.) kept the Conn deficit to 1-0 heading into the second quarter. However, the Bantams added to their margin with 6:43 left in the half when Frank picked up a loose ball in the circle and drilled a rocket past Conn goalie Sophie Moniz (Alexandria, Va.).

Trinity kept the pressure up in the second half, earning another short corner on its opening possession and converting to make it 3-0. Frank hit a ball from the top of the circle that found Katrina Winfield (Wilmington, Del.) at the right post for the score.

Later in the third, Frank potted her second goal of the evening and sixth of the season, lifting a shot over the left shoulder of Moniz to make it a 4-0 game. Trinity then tacked on its final goal early in the fourth, as a restart from 25 yards out by Izzy Deveney (Westport, Conn.) was deflected into the goal by Ashley Zigler (Falls Church, Va.).

The Camels broke up the shutout with 1:10 left in the game. Bridget McGann (West Hartford, Conn.) set up the play by backing her way toward the goal on the left side and centering a pass to Sadak. The rookie buried the feed into the right side of the cage for her first collegiate goal.

Moniz finished with six saves in the contest while Trinity goalie Olivia McMichael (Glenside, Pa.) recorded two. In addition to Jacobsen, Holly Levasseur (Byfield, Mass.) also recorded a defensive save for the Camels.

Through seven games this season, the Camels have now faced four teams ranked in the NFHCA Coaches Poll. The remaining schedule also features five more match-ups against teams currently in the rankings.

Conn College (2-5 overall, 0-3 NESCAC) will next host No. 19 Hamilton College on Saturday, October 1 at noon.
