Men's Squash Splits With Denison, Haverford

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Connecticut College men's squash team split a pair of matchups at neutral site Wesleyan College over the weekend. The Camels took down Denison 8-1 on Friday night before dropping a match to Haverford on Saturday.

Connecticut College 8, Denison 1

In the No. 2 position, Tyler Maguire (Middletown, R.I.) battled to a five-set win over Denison's Tarun Mammen. Maguire took the first two sets, but Mammen stormed back to even the score with one set remaining. Despite the momentum shift, Maguire remained composed and was able to secure the last set 14-12 to pick up a big win for the Camels. 

Alexander Lorenzo-Cruz (Bronx, N.Y.) also scored an impressive victory for Conn. Lorenzo-Cruz faced a 2-1 deficit entering the fourth set. The junior was able to complete the comeback, taking the final two sets 11-5, 11-5 for the dramatic win.

Henry Pelletier (West Hartford, Conn.), Ryan Mach (Concord, Mass.), and Noah Fish (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.) earned decision victories for Conn. Additionally, Peter Russell (Lancaster, Pa.), Juan Hurtado (New Haven, Conn.) and Alexander Navarro (New Haven, Conn.) won by default.

Connecticut College 3, Haverford 6  

In the Saturday matchup, the Camels fell to Haverford 6-3. Maguire picked up his second win of the weekend at the No. 2 position, defeating his opponent in straight sets. Samuel Lovejoy (Branford, Conn.) also found success in the No. 1 slot, winning the first two sets before his opponent retired.    

Connecticut College (2-7) will next play Fordham at home on Jan. 21.
