MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 setback at No. 14 Wesleyan University on Friday night in a NESCAC showdown at Silloway Gymnasium.
Wesleyan won by set scores of 25-15, 25-13 and 25-14 to improve to 14-1 overall (7-0 NESCAC). Sophia Lindus tallied a match-high 14 kills as the Cardinals finished with 44 kills on 100 swings (.320).
Emma Wheeler (Meredith, N.H.) paced Conn with six kills and two block assists on the night.
Katherine Randall (Chicago, Ill.) and
Riley Lord (Exeter, N.H.) added five kills apiece.
Wesleyan strung together big runs to open up sizable leads all night. In the opening set, the Cardinals seized control behind a 9-1 stretch that yielded a 17-8 advantage. A 14-4 spurt gave the hosts a 10-point cushion in the second, and in the third a 10-1 run left the Camels playing from behind early.
Unbeaten in NESCAC play, the Cardinals sit alone atop the league standings and rank first in points (17.46), hitting percentage (.262), kills (13.15), assists (11.83) and blocks (2.56). Wesleyan has only lost three sets in conference play this season.
Conn College (9-8 overall, 2-6 NESCAC) will next play at Trinity College on Saturday, October 14 at 2:00 p.m.
