AMHERST, Mass. – The Connecticut College men's tennis team wrapped up the fall season with a doubleheader split against Amherst College and Nichols College on Saturday.
The Camels began the day with a 9-0 setback against the Mammoths, but rebounded to defeat the Bison by a 5-2 final. The contests were the only head-to-head matches on Conn's slate until spring.
In the second match of the day, Conn picked up the lone doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and 3 positions. The duo of Jules Taylor-Kerman (New York, N.Y.) and Sigmund Winiecki (Jaffrey, N.H.) posted a 7-5 win at the top spot, while Colby Hall (Duxbury, Mass.) and Gavin Anderson (Avon, Conn.) won by the same score at No. 3.
The singles portion was highly competitive, with five of six matches needing a third set to determine a winner. Arjun Premkumar (Bangalore, India) set the tone at the top spot, battling back from a set down to win in three. Taylor-Kerman followed suit at No. 2 with a three-set victory, but Nichols took both matches at No. 3 and 4.
Hall and Alexander Stevens (Hanover, N.H.) came up big for the Camels at No. 5 and 6. Both won in three sets with 6-4 decisions in the deciding frame, earning their first wins in a Conn uniform.
Earlier in the day, Anderson was the only Conn player who took a set off the Mammoths. In lieu of a third set, the match was decided by a 10-point tiebreaker that he lost by a 10-6 final.
