PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Connecticut College men's water polo team dropped their final game of the 2023 Harvard Invitational, falling to Pomona-Pitzer 15-6 on Sunday at Brown University. With the loss, Conn falls to 1-8 on the season.
It was a strong first quarter for Conn (1-8), as the teams were tied at four after the opening eight minutes. Pomona opened the scoring at 6:27, before Jeffrey Harrington (San Diego, Calif.) got the Camels on the board 18 seconds later. Another goal for the Sagehens, was canceled out by two straight for Conn, with Matthew Maischoss (Malibu, Calif.) and Cormac Stevens (Philadelphia, Pa.) putting the Camels up 3-2 with 2:13 left. 23 seconds later, Pomona tied the game at three, but Stevens tallied his second goal to put Conn back in front. The Sagehens added one more goal to make it 4-4 after one. Pomona used a 4-0 second quarter to take an 8-4 lead at the break.
Early in the third quarter, Maischoss picked up his second goal of the day, cutting the deficit to 8-5. Pomona answered with three straight goals, extending the lead to 11-5. Stevens completed his hat trick with 1:02 left in the third quarter, as the Camels headed to the fourth down 11-6. The Sagehens ended the game with four goals in the final quarter to come away with the 15-6 win.
Sebastian Parilov (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had a strong game in net, tallying 14 blocks, including a save on penalty shot for the Sagehens. Stevens paced the Camels with three goals, while Maischoss recorded two, and Harrington added one.
Conn will head to Cambridge, Mass. to take part in the CWPA D3 Eastern Championships beginning on Saturday, with the schedule to be announced.
