Men's Water Polo Wraps Up Eastern Championships With 14-9 Win Over Penn State Behrend

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Connecticut College men's water polo team closed out the 2023 CWPA D3 Eastern Championships on a high note, taking down Penn State Behrend 14-9 on Sunday in Cambridge, Mass. With the win, Conn improves to 2-10 on the season.

Conn (2-10) started quickly, as Jesse Ellis (Fresno, Calif.) got the Camels on the board just 32 seconds into the contest. Penn State Behrend responded with the next two goals to move in front 2-1, before Conn ended the quarter with five straight goals. Jeffrey Harrington (San Diego, Calif.) tallied once during the run, while Cormac Stevens (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Carson Neidert (West Palm Beach, Fla.) both notched two goals, as the Camels led 6-2 after one.

Conn continued their run in the second quarter, tallying the first for goals of the frame. Stevens completed his hat trick with 5:10 left to play in the half, before Neidert followed suit 45 seconds later. Ellis added two more goals, tallying his hat trick, as the Camels led expanded to 10-2. Late in the quarter, Behrend tallied a goal, as Conn led 10-3 at the break.

The Lions opened the third quarter with an early goal, before Stevens tallied his fourth goal of the contest. Neidert picked up another goal, as did Stevens, with the Conn led extending to 13-4, before Behrend tallied late in the frame, as the Camels led 13-5 heading to the fourth. Behrend pushed for the comeback in the final quarter, outsourcing Conn 4-1 in the frame, but the Camels held on. Harrington picked up his second goal of the game with 5:49 to play, as Conn came away with the 14-9 victory.

Four separate Camels scored in the contest, as each recorded multi-goal performances. Stevens led the way with five goals, while Neidert added four, with three goals from Ellis, and two from Harrington.

Following the Championships, Ellis was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Conn heads back on the road on Friday, taking the trip to Brooklyn, N.Y. to take on Long Island University at 4:00 p.m.
