BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Connecticut College men's water polo team hit the road to take on Long Island University, falling to the host Sharks from the LIU Pool. With the loss, Conn falls to 2-11 on the season.
LIU (6-18) started quickly, tallying the first eight goals of the contest, including four in the first quarter, to take a 4-0 lead after eight minutes. The Sharks tallied the first four goals of the second quarter, extending the lead to 8-0, before Conn (2-11) got on the board. Ethan Hipsky (Glastonbury, Conn.) got the first Camels goal with 1:10 left in the half, before Jeffrey Harrington (San Diego, Calif.) tallied with 13 seconds left, as Conn trailed 10-2 at the break.
The Sharks opened the second half with an early goal, but that was canceled out with 4:55 to go on Harrington's second marker of the game. Two more goals for LIU pushed the lead to 13-3, but the Camels answered, recording the final four goals of the contest. Late in the third quarter Cully MacPherson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored to make it 13-4 heading to the fourth quarter. In the final quarter, Carson Neidert (West Palm Beach, Fla.), Jesse Ellis (Fresno, Calif.), and Cormac Stevens (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored in the first two and a half minutes of the frame, cutting the lead to 13-7. Conn could not get any closer, falling to LIU 13-7.
Six separate Camels scored in the contest, led by Harrington's two goals. Ellis, Hipsky, MacPherson, Neidert, and Stevens, all added one goal for Conn.
Conn heads to Rock Island, Ill. for four games in two days, starting against Washington and Jefferson at 1 p.m.
