Men's Soccer Earns 1-1 Draw Against Williams

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College men's soccer team remained unbeaten playing to a 1-1 stalemate with Williams College on Saturday from Freeman Field. With the draw, Conn moves to 7-0-3 overall and 3-0-3 in NESCAC play, while Williams moves to 6-2-2 overall and 2-2-2 in conference play.

Williams tallied the first two shots of the contest, forcing Peter Silvester (Smiths Parish, Bermuda) into an early save. Conn responded with its first shot at 9:08, but Jack Kelesoglu's (Westfield, N.J.) effort was saved. The Camels struck first in the 16th minute, as Maurice Pigola (Gorlitz, Germany) lofted in a free kick into the box and connected with the head of Kelesoglu, bouncing off an Ephs defender to give Conn a 1-0. The teams traded chances for the remainder of the half, but the Camels led 1-0 at the break.

Conn dominated the lion's share of chances in the second half, outshooting Williams 7-1. Matt Scoffone (Thornton, Pa.) had an early chance to double the Camels advantage, but his shot was stopped by Ben Diffley. Conn had the next three shots, but it would be the Ephs who found the back of the net at 61:19, tying the game at one, off a goal from Andrew Coelho. Conn pushed for the winning goal, tallying three shots in the final 10 minutes, but was unable to break through, as the squads settled for the 1-1 draw.

Conn outshot Williams 14-6 overall, including a 4-3 edge on shots on goal and a 5-4 advantage on corner kicks.

Silvester got the start between the sticks, making two saves on three shots. Jake Creus and Scoffone paced the Camels with shots each, with two and one on goal respectively.

Diffley got the start in goal making four saves on five shots for the Ephs. Coelho led the Williams attack with one goal, while Sam Gibson added an assist.

The Camels continue their home stand, taking on the Coast Guard Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday on Freeman Field.
