BALTIMORE, Md. - The Connecticut College men's water polo team headed south for two games in Maryland, falling to the Naval Academy 19-6 on Saturday, before falling to Johns Hopkins 22-8 on Sunday. With the two losses, the Camels fall 1-5 on the season.
GAME 1: NAVY 19 - CONN 6
Navy (14-4) started quickly, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the opening three and a half minutes. Conn (1-5) got on the board at 3:31 in the opening quarter, as Jeffrey Harrington (San Diego, Calif.) got the Camels on the board. The Midshipmen tallied twice more, to take a 5-1 lead after the first quarter. Navy continued their run in the second quarter with five more goals, but Cormac Stevens (Philadelphia, Pa.) notched a hat-trick in the frame, as Conn trailed 10-4 at the half.
The Midshipmen started the second half with four straight goals, pushing the lead to 14-4, before Jesse Ellis (Fresno, Calif.) (Cambridge, Mass.) found the back of the net in the final minute of the third quarter, as Navy led 14-5 heading to the fourth quarter. Navy added five goals in the last quarter pushing the advantage to 19-5. Late in the contest, Ellis connected again for the Camels, but Navy came away with the 19-6 win.
Sebastian Parilov (Brooklyn, N.Y.) got the start in goal for Conn, making four saves in the contest. Stevens led the Camels offense, tallying three goals, while Ellis, Harrington, and Smilack each added one goal.
GAME 2: JOHNS HOPKINS 22 - CONN 8
Johns Hopkins (2-12) opened the contest with the first two goals, to take a 2-0 lead just over three and a half minutes in. Harrington cut the deficit to one with 21 seconds left, but a late goal for the Blue Jays, gave Hopkins a 3-1 lead after one. Johns Hopkins added six goals in the second period, but goals from Stevens and Siaki Nelson (Montgomery, Texas) had the score at 9-3 at the half.
The third quarter featured ten combined goals, with six goals for the Blue Jays and four for the Camels. Ellis and Stevens both tallied a goal in third frame, while Harrigton added two goals, as Hopkins led 15-7 heading to the fourth quarter. Harrington added his fourth goal of the contest early in the fourth quarter, but the Blue Jays tallied seven goals to come away with the 22-8 win.
Parilov continued his run in goal for Conn, making seven saves in the contest. Harrigton and Stevens led the Camels with multi-goal games, as Harrington notched four goals and Stevens tallied twice, while Ellis and Nelson both added one goal.
Conn heads to Cambridge, Mass to take part in the Harvard Invitational next weekend, with their first game coming against Wagner on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
