Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Men's Hockey Falls to Trinity

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College men's ice hockey team battled hard once again, but came up short this time against Trinity College, falling 3-1 on Saturday afternoon in Dayton Arena. With the loss, Conn falls to 0-2 overall and 0-2 in NESCAC play, while Trinity improves to 2-0 overall and 2-0 in conference action.

Trinity (2-0, 2-0) started quickly firing off two shots in the opening 45 seconds of the contest. Conn (0-2, 0-2) got their first shot a minute and a half later, but Jack Luca (Milton, Mass.) had his shot stopped. Late in the period, Conn was assessed a five minute major penalty, giving the Bantams a long man advantage opportunity. With just 27 seconds left in the period, Gerard Maretta got Trinity on the board, redirecting home a shot from the point, as the Bantams led 1-0 after the first.

Early in the second period the Camels did well to kill off the remainder of the five minute penalty, but just after it expired, Trinity doubled their lead. Casey Rhodes found the back of the net at 4:48 to make it 2-0. Conn started to press looking to get back into the game, and were gifted with a 5-on-3 advantage at 6:20. With time running down on the first Bantam power play, Quinn Kennedy (Silver Spring, Md.) let a shot go from the top of the right circle, sneaking in just under the crossbar to cut the lead to 2-1 at 7:30. Neither side found the net for the rest of the period, as Trinity led 2-1 heading to the third.

In the third period, Trinity took over, trying to limit any chances Conn had at tying the game, keeping the Camels hemmed in their defensive zone. Sean Dynan (Reading, Mass.) did his best to keep Conn alive, thwarting many chances for the Bantams, but Trinity eventually got an insurance marker. At 14:54, Alexander Mozian received a pass in front of the goal from Christian Hayes, beating Dynan to extend the lead to 3-1. Trinity held off a late Camels push to come away with the 3-1 victory.

Trinity outshot Conn 40-17 on the afternoon, while it was virtually even in the circle, as the Bantams won 36 face-offs to Conn's 33.

Dynan continued his strong play in goal to start the year, finishing with 37 saves on 40 shots. Kennedy tallied the lone goal and led the squad with five shots on goal, while Steven Ardagna (Roswell, Ga.) picked up an assist. Russo was strong in the face-off circle, winning 16 of 31 draws, with Kei Yasuda (Nagoya, Japan) winning seven of 14, while Conn went 1-5 on the power play and 4-5 on the penalty kill.

Devon Bobak earned the win in goal, stopping 16 of 17 shots. Six Bantams recorded a point, as Rhodes, Mozian, and Maretta each tallied a goal. Trinity went 1-5 on the power play and 4-5 on the penalty kill.

Conn wraps up their three-game home stand to start the year against Albertus Magnus on November 26, at 3:00 p.m. in Dayton Arena.
