Men's Water Polo Ends the Season at NWPA Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Connecticut College men's water polo team wrapped up the season, dropping the final two games of the NWPA Championships, falling 18-3 to MIT, before falling 25-5 to LIU.

GAME ONE: MIT 18, CONN 3

MIT started quickly, jumping out to a 1-0 lead just over three minutes in. Conn (2-22) answered a just over a minute later, as Cormac Stevens (Philadelphia, Pa.) found the net. The Engineers scored late in the quarter to lead 2-1 after the first. Early in the second quarter, Jesse Ellis (Fresno, Calif.) got the Camels even, tying the game at two. MIT answered with four straight goals to end the quarter, leading 6-2 at the half.

The Engineers opened the third quarter with another tally, extending the lead to 7-2. Just under two minutes later, Ellis collected his second goal, cutting the deficit to 7-3. Following Ellis' marker, MIT ended the game on an 11-0 run, to come away with the 18-3 victory.

GAME TWO: LIU 25, CONN 5

Conn started quickly in the nightcap, jumping out to an early 1-0 lead on a goal from Jeffrey Harrington (San Diego, Calif.). LIU answered with three straight goals, before Grant Archer (Miami, Fla.) cut it to 3-2. The Sharks tallied the last two goals of the quarter to lead 5-2 after one. LIU continued their strong play throughout the second quarter, outscoring Conn 6-0 in the frame to lead 11-2 at the half.

The Sharks run continued to start the third quarter, as LIU tallied the first five goals of the frame to extend the lead to 16-2. Stevens cut the deficit to 16-3, before a late goal for LIU gave the Sharks a 17-3 heading to the fourth. In the final quarter, LIU outscored the Camels 8-2, with Stevens and Graham Stuart (Carlisle, Mass.) finding the net for Conn, as the Sharks came away with the 25-5 win.

Conn concludes the season, finishing with a 2-22 record on the year.
