Women's Hockey Falls to Williams 3-0

NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Connecticut College women's ice hockey team dropped their conference home opener, falling to visiting Williams College 3-0 on Friday night from Dayton Arena.. With the loss, Conn falls to 2-2-1 overall and 1-2-0 in conference play, while Williams improves to 2-1-0 overall and 2-1-0 in NESCAC play..

It was a slow start to the game for both teams, but Conn (2-2-1, 1-2-0) recorded the first shot of the contest, as Casey Chesner's (Great Falls, Va.) shot was stopped. Williams (2-1-0, 2-1-0) responded with a burst of shots, but were unable to beat Jillian Wexler (Plainsboro, N.J.). Neither side generated much else in the period, as the game was scoreless after one.

Both teams traded shots to start the middle stanza, with the Camels earning the first power play of the contest, at 9:13. However, it was the Ephs that scored on the special teams opportunity, as Leah Rubinshteyn's shot trickled through Wexler at 9:38 to give Williams the 1-0. Conn answered after giving up the opening goal, firing plenty of shots on goal, but could not find the equalizer, as the Ephs led heading to the third period.

Conn came out strong in the third period, looking to tie the game, but were called for a penalty at 4:33. On the ensuing power play, Williams doubled their lead on a tally by Quinn Dawson at 5:08. Three minutes later, the Ephs were awarded another power play, and converted once again to extend the lead to 3-0 at 8:33. The Camels pushed trying to get back into the game, but were unable to solve Erin Pye, as Williams came away with the win.

Conn outshot Williams 30-19, while winning 31 of 54 draws.

Wexler got the start in goal, making 16 saves on 19 shots. Chesner and Kiley Smith (Marion, Mass.) led the Camels, tallying four shots on goal each, while four others recorded three. Sydney Cresta (Swampscott, Mass.) was strong in the face-off circle, winning 11 of 17 draws, while Charlotte Harris (Ystrad Mynach, Wales) won seven of 10. The Camels went 0-2 on the power play and 1-3 on the penalty kill.

Pye picked up the shutout in goal, stopping all 30 shots faced. Rubinshteyn led the Ephs with three points on two goals and one assist, while Dawson and three others added one point. Williams won 23 face-offs, while going 2-3 on the power play and 2-2 on the penalty kill.

Conn closes out the weekend series against Williams tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 p.m. in Dayton Arena.
