MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- The Connecticut College men's indoor track and field team opened the season on Saturday, traveling to Middletown, Conn. to take part in the Wesleyan Winter Invitational.
On the Track
60 Meters
In the 60M finals Dylan Haime (Bronx, N.Y.) claimed a second place finish with a time of 7.20 seconds. Ty Dorow (Barrington, N.H.) finished in fifth with a 7.29, while Francisco Moreira (Belchertown, Mass.) wrapped up the Camels with eighth place finish at 7.40.
200 Meters
In the 200M finals, the Camels had seven runners participate, led by Jayson Firmin (Dedham, Mass.) who collected a seventh place finish with a time of 23.62, followed right behind by Cathal Keating (Dover, Mass.) in eighth, with a time of 23.76. Luke Alban (Piedmont, Calif.) collected an 11th place finish, with Moreira in 17th, a 21st place finish for Brian Gibson (Andover, Mass.), 23rd for Wesley Schreiber (New York, N.Y.), with Evan Young (Forest Hills, N.Y.) wrapping up the group with a 27th place finish with a time of 26.25.
60 Meter Hurdles
Erorol Apostolopoulos (Marblehead, Mass.) collected a second place in the 60M hurdles, with a time of 9.26, while Declan Leclair (Westminster, Mass.) finished fifth at 9.81.
4x400 Relay
In the 4x400 relay, Dorow, Haime, Leclair, and Schreiber combined for a time of 3:40.19 and a third place finish.
In the Field
Pole Vault
Anders Larson (Concord, N.H.) claimed the victory in the pole vault, winning by nearly a foot, after clearing 3.95M, with second place clearing 3.65M
High Jump
Apostolopoulos was the lone competitor in the high jump finals, clearing a height of 1.70M to finish in a tie for eighth place.
Long Jump
Five Camels participated in the long jump, led by Apostolopoulos and Larson, who finished ninth and 10th with distances of 5.91M and 5.74M respectively. Leclair claimed a 12th place finish with a distance of 5.68M, followed by Firmin in 14th at 5.60M, with Jackson Davis (New Canaan, Conn.) in 16th at 5.45M.
Triple Jump
Firmin collected a second place finish in the triple jump, with a distance of 12.46M. Davis finished in 10th place with a distance of 10.40M.
Shot Put
Victor Alayande (London, England), Will Johnstone (Beverly, Mass.), Will Mears (Leland, N.C.), and Antonio Agnew (Chicago, Ill.) participated in the shot put finals. Alayande recorded a 14th place finish with a throw of 10.60M. Johnstone, Mears, and Agnew, finished 19th, 20th, and 21st, with throws of 9.40M, 9.21M, and 7.74M respectively.
Weight Throw
Alayande wrapped up the day in the weight throw, collecting a fourth place finish, with a heave of 12.56M.
Conn returns to action on January 13th, as the Camels make the short trek to the Coast Guard Academy for the Coast Guard Academy Invitational.
