Men's, Women's Squash Fall To Brown In Home Finale

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College men's and women's squash team hosted Brown University in the final home event of the season on Wednesday night at Luce Field House.

Both squads fell to the Bears 6-3 to wrap up non-conference regular season play.

On the men's side, Tyler Maguire (Middletown, R.I.) continued his strong senior year out of the No. 2 position. Maguire defeated Raghav Pemmireddy 11-5, 10-12, 11-9, 11-9.

First year Henry Pelletier (West Hartford, Conn.) cruised to a victory in the No. 3 slot. Pelletier downed Ralph Benamran in straight sets, 11-7, 11-7, 11-5.

At the No. 9 position, Tommy Whittemore (West Hartford, Conn.) wrapped up his final home match with a win, defeating Andrew Herring in four sets.

The women's team also picked up three individual wins against Brown. Out of the No. 5 slot, Caroline Champa (Boston, Mass.) had the match of the day. After splitting the first four sets with Brown's Marissa Tam, Champa emerged victorious in the final frame, topping Tam 12-10.

Senior Leslie Gonzales (New York, N.Y.) and junior Ashley Breyer (Middletown, R.I.) picked up straight-set wins in the No. 8 and 9 positions respectively to round out the scoring for the Camels.

The men's squad will wrap up the regular season on Saturday, February 4 against Amherst. The women's team will also play the Mammoths, followed by a matchup with Mt. Holyoke later in the day.
