Men's Ice Hockey Falls To Bowdoin In Season Finale

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College men's ice hockey team came up just short, falling to Bowdoin 2-0 on Saturday afternoon at Dayton Arena.

The Polar Bears scored two third period goals to down the Camels in the regular season finale. With the victory, Bowdoin secured the sixth seed in the upcoming NESCAC tournament.

In the first period, the two squads battled to a scoreless tie. Bowdoin tallied eight shots on goal during the opening 20 minutes, but the Camels defense and goaltender Kellen Beauton (Colchester, Conn.) held firm, keeping the Polar Bears off the scoreboard.

During the middle frame, both teams went to work with their penalty kill units. The Polar Bears killed off two power play opportunities for the Camels, while the hosts stifled one man-advantage situation for the visitors. The Camels slightly edged Bowdoin 12-11 in shots on goal, but once again neither squad could crack the scoreboard.

In the third, the Camels had two chances on breakaway opportunities, but Bowdoin goaltender Alex Kozic stopped both attempts to keep the game scoreless.

The visitors finally broke through at the 13:56 mark. As Ethan Kimball skated near the boards into the Camels defensive zone, he found teammate Gabe Shipper on a cross-ice pass to Beauton's far side. The feed was perfect, and Shipper just got a stick on it, putting it into the back of the net for the game-winner.

With time winding down in the period, Conn pulled Beauton from net to utilize the extra attacker. Despite several shot attempts from the Camels, Kozic turned each one away. In the waning moments, Bowdoin was able to put in an empty-net goal to seal the 2-0 win.

Despite the loss, Beauton was fantastic between the pipes for the Camels. The first year played the best game of his collegiate career only allowing one goal, while registering a career-high 38 saves. Kozic earned the win, stopping 25 shots for the Polar Bears.

Both teams earned three power play opportunities, but neither could convert on any of the chances.

Prior to the game, Conn celebrated seven seniors for their contributions to the men's ice hockey program over the past several years. Tim Pesek (Weston, Mass.), Lukas Uhler (Upland, Calif.), Younghoon Choi (Seoul, South Korea), Anthony Quatieri (Peabody, Mass.), Brett Moccia (Lake Forest, Ill.), Eric Fournier (Lethbridge, Alberta), and Rob Radochia (Woburn, Mass.) were recognized in the pre-game ceremony.

Connecticut College (5-19 overall, 2-16 NESCAC) will graduate its seven seniors and return over twenty letter winners next season.
